MU’s TRiO Student Support Services is funded through the U.S. Department of Education and provides exclusive, free services to 670 eligible students. This program is designed to help eligible students meet the academic, financial, and social demands of a college education. TRiO’s goal is to provide opportunities for academic development, assist students with college requirements, and motivate students toward the successful completion of their postsecondary education, therefore increasing the college retention and graduation rates of its participants.
Students who meet one or more of the following are encouraged to apply for TRiO SSS:
- First-Generation (neither parent/guardian had a bachelor’s degree before the student turned 18)
- Documented Disability (documented through the Mizzou Disability Center)
- Financial Need (indicated by Income Verification Form)
Do you need FREE and personal assistance with:
- Scheduling courses or degree planning?
- Time management?
- Finding academic or support resources?
- 1:1 tutoring?
- Study skills or test taking strategies?
- Filing your FAFSA?
- Securing loans and scholarships?
- Exploring different majors or careers?
- Constructing a resume or being interview ready?
- Applying to graduate or professional school?
- Addressing personal concerns?
- Finding your campus community?
- Anything at all?
If you answered “yes” to any of these questions, then TRiO SSS at Mizzou is right for you!!
TRiO is a one-stop shop, and advisors have smaller caseloads so they have more time to help you!

No! TRiO Services are free to all participants!
- Attend at least ONE meeting with your TRiO Advisor (whether that is in person, by email, Zoom, phone, etc.)
- Attend at least ONE TRiO approved event or workshop
TRiO participants will remain in the program while they are enrolled at MU.
No, TRiO is not a scholarship program. (however, we do have frequent opportunities for scholarships- check out our Scholarship Incentive Program for this semester here!)

TRiO SSS is not only for students who need academic help, but also for those needing support for rigorous academic programs, seeking other assistance like applying to graduate schools, exploring volunteer and internship opportunities, career exploration, looking for a place to call home on campus, and desiring leadership opportunities. Students will tell you that you should participate because TRiO enhances your college experience and helps you answer questions you didn’t even know you had!
